The November Niners
The November Niners Now that the last remaining players to compete on one of the most famous, one of the most prestigious and definitely the one of the richest sporting event in the world, are completed, its time to learn a bit of them and have a taste of what could happen in the poker table come November. Dennis Phillips Dennis is a 53-year old truck driver from St. Louis, Missouri. With 900 grand in his pocket and a shot for couple of millions more, expect this humble but eager tournament amateur to slug it out against the established veteran of the trade. Ivan Demidov Ivan is a professional poker player from Moscow who cashed in on three events and landed on the Main Event finals. Surprised as he was, expect this soft-spoken online poker hotshot to twist the tables around in November. Scott Montgomery Scott is a Canadian resident who has the killer combination in WSOP a big bankroll and lots of experience. For those who tune in other tournaments, youve probably seen Scott in LA Poker Classic in 2008 where he finished fifth with almost 300 grand. Peter Eastgate Peter is a 22-year old poker player who hails from Denmark. But make no hasty remarks about his age because this young player is one of Denmarks recognized online professional players since 2005. He cashed $10,000 dollars in for a chance at the felt table, and what do you know, after much of the 6,800 heads are gone, one of the youngest player this year is sitting on the poker table this November. Ylon Schwartz Ylon is a chess player who has been gambling for 25 of his 38 years. He has made his living out of playing poker for several years, and he has no plans of stopping right now. He was the player who has the most number of cash-in in WSOP event with 12. Should he win, expect him to be out of sight for sometime because this New Yorker plans to escape to where you least expect him to be. Darus Suharto Canadian Darus Suharto is set to follow the footsteps of an unknown accountant who shocked the world how number crunchers play poker. An Indonesian-born residing in Toronto Canada, expect Moneymaker-incarnate try to turn an $80 investment into multi-million dollar prize money. David Rheem Probably the most famous of the nine, David Chino Rheem has made several previous appearances in WSOP final table. This 28-year-old professional poker player has been playing poker since he was 18. With fear set aside and Lady Luck in place, Chino is ready to take on the final table challenge. Craig Marquis This 23-year-old poker player hailing from Arlington, Texas is the one who beat Hamricks AJ out of the tournament with pocket queens. Expect Lady Luck to flutter around this young poker player, especially when you realized he was just playing poker for 18 months. Kelly Kim He maybe a wee bit shorthanded when it comes to bankroll, but dont expect him to back out just yet. A California-based business analyst who traded his portfolio for some chips, he has four months worth of time to think about how to make his narrow way to victory this November.

How Social Media has affected Poker
Poker December 19th, 2011 A couple of years ago, sites such as Pokerlistings started to report on various posts by poker pros on Twitter during their World Series of Poker coverage. From that point on, social media, and not to mention poker blogs has become a major tool for poker players to both communicate about their successes at the poker tables and even market themselves. Lets take a look at some poker players who are big at social media. Doyle Brunson would seem the least likely to use social media due to his age, but the Godfather of Poker is one of the biggest tweeters in the poker community. He started a long trend of blond jokes last year and regularly comments on everything from his poker game to sports. Erik Seidel uses social media to show a side of himself that normally only his close friends and family see. His tweets are commonly among the most humorous among players and this seemingly quiet man has a knack for comic timing.Kathy Liebert is another pro that often uses Twitter to talk about whatever the hell she wants, and she doesnt mind saying just that. Recently, she discovered sports betting and her persistent tweeting led to a prop bet between her and WPT photographer and reporter BJ Nemeth. Phil Hellmuth proves that whether he is at the poker tables, on TV, or on twitter, he loves to talk about himself. He is another frequent user of both Twitter and Facebook and you can guarantee that at least one tweet a day is going to be some type of veiled brag about his life. The Commissioner of the Epic Poker League, Annie Duke, is also a frequent tweeter. While she spends a good amount of twitter time promoting her book or the EPL, she also shares a good deal about her family and her general life. You can check out http://www.pokerlistings.com/blog/top-10-biggest-social-media-players-in-poker for more players who frequent social media. It shouldnt be a surprise that social media is a hit with poker players. Poker players have massive egos and self promotion is key in the modern era of poker. Social media is just one tool they can use that will not cut into their bankroll. Play Online Poker Poker Blog Copyright 2008 Just add chips LLCSubscribe to PokerBloggs.com

2012 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Super High Roller Day 2: Hall Leads Final Table
January 06 2012, Eric Ramsey Related Articles 2012 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Super High Roller Day 1: Haxton Leads The Way 12 Predictions for 2012 2011 World Series of Poker Day 5: Katchalov Wins Stud Bracelet and Ho Makes Event #4 Final Table Related Players Share It Tags PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, PokerStars, Daniel Negreanu, Jason Mercier, Jonathan Duhamel, Erik Seidel, Galen Hall Print The 2012 edition of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Super High Roller event drew 32 entries at $100,000 a pop, and 14 of them were lost over the course of Day 1. Friday was moving day, Day 2, and the 18 survivors returned to the felt to play down to the final table. What promised to be an entertaining day of poker did not disappoint, and the eight survivors are led by none other than 2011 PCA Main Event champion Galen Hall. He bagged up 1.748 million chips at the end of the night to set the pace for Saturday’s final table. Chance Kornuth began play in the middle of the pack, but he was the first to fall after a crippling staight-over-straight encounter with Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu. Tom Marchese was next to fall when his queen-jack fell to Viktor Blom’s , and just like that, the field was reduced to two tables of eight. Before the redraw, though, Yevgeniy Timoshenko ran his ace-jack into David Sands’ two red aces at one of the adjacent tables to shrink the group to the final 15 players. The chip counts were getting a bit polarized by the midway point in the day, and Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier was one of the have-nots. He was very short on chips when his fell to Hall’s on a board, and his exit left Jason Mecier as one of the shortest stacks in the room. Naturally, he got the rest of his chips in good with his dominating Sands’ . Somehow, though, Mercier’s perpetual good fortune let him down. The board ran out , and Mercier was out in 14th place. Will Molson knows his way around the big-buy-in PCA events, finishing second, second, and first in the last three $25,000 High Roller Events, respectively. He was one of the donators in this $100,000, though, losing a flip with against Blom’s . Blom’s baby pair held strong again as the board ran to usher Molson to the exit. As is the case with Mercier, it’s almost front-page news when Erik Seidel busts an event before the final table. Seidel had just over 20 big blinds left when he three-bet shoved with behind a Negreanu open. Negreanu had , and the board sent Seidel off empty handed. Isaac Haxton was still leading the 11 remaining players, but Negreanu was nipping on his heels after the knockout pot. Both Jonathan Duhamel and Blom had their names in the top five, too. Blom slipped just a bit, but he made up for his losses by taking all of Sands’ chips. In a two-hand series, Blom first took one half of Sands’ stack, then the other. The final hand saw Sands flipping for his tournament life with against , but the board was unkind to his pocket pair. Finishing the deal, Blom sent his opponent off in 11th place and moved back over the million-chip mark once again. Sam Stein had a frustrating day on the felt, too, punctuated by a big run-in with Dan Shak. Stein check-shoved when the turn gave his tens up, but Shak snapped him off with the overpair, , to all but end Stein’s run in tenth place. Nine-handed action left both tables playing short-handed, and Hall absolutely took command, more than tripling his stack during that period. Up to that point, things had been progressing at a frustrating pace for the young multimillionaire as he had to deal with the big-stacked Haxton on his direct left for nearly the entire tournament. Haxton had been punishing Hall for 10 levels, but Level 11 turned the tides in a big way. Hall got two big barrels into the pot when he turned a flush with , and Haxton dropped a big chunk when he paid off the river bet with two mystery cards. Just a few minutes later, Hall got the rest of Haxton’s once-mighty stack when his overcame the dominating . Haxton’s hand fell into a big hole on the flop, and he could not catch up on the turn or river. Just like that, the man who’d been tournament captain for two days was out in ninth place, and the final table was set with Hall atop the counts. The surviving eight players will return to the felt at 1200 EST (1700 GMT) on Saturday to play to a winner. With five spots paying out and a quarter-million dollar bubble lurking over their heads, three of the finalists will be forced to go home empty handed. Here’s how they’ll stack up at the final table: Seat Player Chips 1 Humberto Brenes 343,000 2 Scott Seiver 556,000 3 Daniel Negreanu 1,230,000 4 Jonathan Duhamel 1,336,000 5 Mike “Timex” McDonald 360,000 6 Dan Shak 1,199,000 7 Viktor “Isildur1″ Blom 1,228,000 8 Galen Hall 1,748,000 Our Live Reporting team has a ringside seat for the action on Saturday, so tune into the blog beginning at 1200 EST (1700 GMT) to follow along.

Pius Heinz wins 2011 WSOP
The 2011 World Series of Poker Main Event title has finally been claimed. Pius Heinz, a 22-year-old professional poker player from Cologne, Germany, took the title holding Ace-King against Martin Staszko’s Ten-Seven. Neither hand improved and Heinz took home $8.7 million with ace-high. Not only was Heinz the first German to win the Main, he was the first to sit at the final table. Over 6800 players from 85 different nations started the event over 13 days, with a prize pool of $64,540,858. The top 693 cashed and the tournament broke, as usual, over a period of five months between the body of the event and the final table, the “November Nine.” Notably, third-place finisher Ben Lamb was looking to culminate a sick, sick run at the WSOP. He place in five consecutive tournaments, making the final table of four of them, and winning one of them. This unheard-of streak locked him up solidly for the WSOP Player of the Year title. For the first time, the Main Event was broadcast (almost) live. There was a delay of several minutes to limit the ability of players to exploit the private pocket card cameras. Although this could potentially allow players to learn about very recent hands during breaks, creating a unique angle on the most important final table of the year. The continuing high turnout of the WSOP is taken as proof that the allure of poker continues throughout the world despite a federal crackdown against online poker. # Player Earnings Country 1 Pius Heinz $8,715,638 Germany 2 Martin Staszko $5,433,086 Czech Republic 3 Ben Lamb $4,021,138 United States 4 Matt Giannetti $3,012,700 United States 5 Phil Collins $2,269,599 United States 6 Eoghan O’Dea $1,720,831 Ireland 7 Bob Bounahra $1,314,097 Belize 8 Anton Makiieveskyi $1,010,015 Ukraine 9 Sam Holden $782,115 United Kingdom Copyright 2011 Ace Nine, LLC Legal | Contact Us | Site Map

Marvin Continues String of Small Cashes
Posted by Bradley, December 18, 2011 Holding A K in his hand at the final table of the WPT Venice on a board of K Q 9, Team Titans Marvin Rettenmaier was sure that his top pair was good against Italian opponent Michele Caroli. Marvin bet and Caroli called. The six on the turn gave Marvin the confidence to bet again, and Caroli called again. The seven on the river should have wrapped it up for Marvin, but his all-in bet was again called. Marvin turned over his A K to show the top pair, but Caroli turned over T 8. The players at the table were silent, not realizing for several moments that Caroli had hit a straight. According to the live update of the event, Marvin rose from the table and said, That’s the craziest thing I have ever seen at the poker table!” Marvins finish in 8th place was good for a prize of $19,770. He had gone into Day 4 of the tournament as chipleader, well ahead of the remaining field of 15 players. The WPT Venice cash in 8th place was the latest in Marvins string of small cashes during December. While he had busted out of the WPT Prague and EPT Prague Main Events, Marvin did manage to cash in a side event at each tournament. Marvin finished in 14th place in the 1,000 No Limit Hold’em event at WPT Prague for a prize of $2,082. A few days later, he finished in 9th place in the 2,000 No Limit Hold’em event at EPT Prague. His prize was $12,572. Marvins winnings for 2011 have now passed $825,000.

CelebPoker Package Winner Achieves Ambition
CelebPoker Package Winner UK CelebPoker player Matthew Tranter took the next step in his poker career by winning a package to the Irish Winter Festival that took place from October 29th 31st, 2011. As a loyal player of CelebPoker, Matt will be aiming for more package wins in our online satellites for land based poker tournaments. We caught up with himto find out a bit more. What do you do (occupation, studies, hobbies etc?)I have been making a living by playing poker for the last couple of years. Prior to this I studied software development. I greatly enjoy skiing, socializing, reading and a wide variety of music; primarily drum & bass and dubstep which I find very helpful as a driving force during long poker sessions. How long have you been playing poker and how did you start?I have been playing poker for 5 years. Poker first caught my attention when some of the better players started to move over from the real time strategy game “Starcraft” that I was playing competitively at the time, they all showed great results and this opened my mind to the advantage of investing my time and dedication into a more profitable venture. Televised poker also added to the appeal to get involved in this exciting game; seeing the pros at the time playing high stakes tournaments for millions of dollars helped fuel my desire to learn and hopefully one day compete with and defeat these great players. Did you use any special strategy to win the tournament?I vary my play style based on the players on my tables at the time. On some tables it is advantageous to play tight (only the best hands) and some loose (many hands), however either way I will try to play those hands aggressively making my opponents make tough decisions whilst giving me information about the strength of their hands. In this tournament I was able to play a loose aggressive style (this means i was playing a lot of hands whilst betting/raising/re-raising rather than calling) and had a very large stack going into the final table.A tight player will make it into the money positions in a tournament more than a loose player, however a loose player will go on the win much bigger prizes more often when they do make the money. Any key moments you remember from tournament? The final table is the most important part of the tournament, with the pay increasing steeply with each extra position gained; here outplaying the other players really matters.I was lucky to have a 2 – 1 chip lead on 2nd place going in to the FT and couldn’t really ask for a better start. The other players were all playing tight against me; trying to avoid me at all costs unless they had a monster hand. This is always a good thing as with nobody trying to contest pots with me I was effectively being given permission to constantly steal chips from the other players allowing me to extend my chip lead significantly… a lot of the pots i won on the FT could have gone to the other player had they tried to play back at me. What do you plan to do with the prize money?I plan to use a lot of the prize money to work my way into a number of large live events. I will be playing the Irish Winter Festival tournament in October and hope that this will be the first of many over the next couple of years. It has been an ambition of mine to expand in to the live poker scene for quite some time now and huge prizes are ready for the taking.I will also re-invest a lot of the money on the Celeb Poker cash/tournament tables in order to continue progressing up through the stakes striving to improve by playing better players and to earn bigger pay days. Advice to other players? You might have to play countless tournaments in order to take a big finish or it could happen on your first one. The important thing is to not let this high level variance affect your play, if you’re not happy with your results so far it does not necessarily mean you’re a bad player as luck is certainly a large factor in poker. Keep a clear head, always be trying to improve your game (there are many resources out there for an aspiring poker player to learn from), put in the hands and the results will follow.
